Fearful Times... Message of Hope!

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but nowadays it’s almost depressing to watch the evening news. About a month ago, reports of terrorist activity in France flashed onto the screen. Then, of course, there’s ISIS. And who can forget the fact that there are missing nuclear weapons that might be in the hands of countries such as Iran? People are worried about what the future holds. Jesus’ words, spoken nearly two thousand years ago, describe the present condition of the world best – “Men’s hearts failing for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth” (Luke 21:26, KJV).

So who or what should we look to for guidance, comfort, and hope in a world full of chaos and turmoil? We can go to God’s Word. Notice one of the reasons why Scripture was given: “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have HOPE” (Romans 15:4, KJV; emphasis added). Are you searching for hope in this world of turmoil? You won’t find it watching the evening news. That’s too depressing. Go to the word of God, the Scriptures, the Holy Bible. There you will find hope in the fact that the condition our world is in today points to a soon-coming Savior. Now that’s real hope! Those without the blessed hope of our Savior’s return to earth look at the problems in our world, saying, “Look what our world is coming to!” However, Christians can look at the present state of our world, and say, “Look Who’s coming to our world!”

So today, take some time to read God’s Word and experience the joy and hope it brings. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus in Luke 21:28, “And when these things begin to come to pass, look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh” (KJV).
